How fire resistant is a HBE house HBE?

The fire resistance of glulam and wood in general is underestimated and wrongly considered as very low. In reality the HBE system is highly fire resistant, often mores o than traditional structures. How is this possible? The surface of glulam components is being precisely planed which prevents them from quickly catching fire. Even if these components get aflame during a considerable fire, their surface becomes a layer of charcoal which cuts off the air from the rest of the wood. This way only the external surface of the structure starts burning, while the load-bearing cross-section remains unharmed. The HBE system’s high fire resistance is a result of its monolithic construction. HBE ceilings can even reach better fire resistance levels than traditional ceilings.
